NACCS 43, A Success in Colorado

After a long absence from the mile high city, NACCS returned to Denver, Colorado.

This years theme “¡Chicana/o Power! Transforming Chicana/o Activism, Discourse and Scholarship into Power” brought together over 500 participants that filled breakout sessions, listened to plenaries, and enjoyed the Awards Luncheon.

Each year, the conference creates a space that provides Chicana and Chicano scholars, students, and community to discuss issues not only affecting the discipline but also to also discuss pedagogical strategies that can create positive educational pathways for Chicana and Chicano students.

During the conference, local community members announced that History Colorado would make the El Movimiento exhibition a permanent installation. History Colorado becomes the first museum in the United States to maintain a permanent an exhibition on the Chicana/o Movement. The Colorado Foco and NACCS provided buses to museum and held a grand reception for NACCS participants at the museum.

Various university presses and the regular NACCS venders sold out of the latest book releases in Chicana and Chicano Studies.
